Creating digital and virtual worlds

For ages 13-17 years old

Duration: 8 weeks (2 hours/week)

STEAM Fields: COMPUTER SCIENCE, PHYSICS, TECHNOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, ARTS

Creating digital and virtual worlds

The program focuses on the science of digital simulations based on the application of the laws of physics, such as gravity, the movement of wind, humans, animals and plants, within computational environments. Students will learn how modern simulations reach levels of realism that rival actual nature videos.
They will study the use of virtual reality (VR) systems and the rapid growth of the e-gaming industry, as well as the role of digital simulations in scientific research and industry for performing virtual experiments and measuring characteristics of materials and systems.
At the same time, children will explore the new possibilities offered by artificial intelligence (AI) and natural human-computer communication systems.
Students, divided into groups, will explore methods for creating simulations and conduct experiments on special computing systems. They will have the opportunity to use VR and AI technologies, as well as program simple or more complex systems, depending on their age. At the end, they will present their research and projects, promoting discussion and analysis.

Learning objectives

1.Explain the use of digital simulations in scientific research and industry.
2.Describe the operation and applications of VR systems and artificial intelligence (AI).
