CODING: The Science Behind Video Games

Video games may seem fun and imaginative, but behind each game lies a whole world of scientific knowledge, technology, and human psychology. In this program, students discover the basic principles of game design and how the human mind works during gameplay: from colors that evoke emotions, to music that increases tension, and the sense of reward that keeps the player engaged.
They explore the connection between narrative structure and level design, study physics and motion engines, and analyze how graphics and sounds influence our behavior. Through experiential activities and the use of friendly programming tools, they design and implement their own mini-game, while collaborating to solve creative and technical challenges.
The workshop strengthens digital literacy, the responsible use of technology, and cultivates innovation and critical thinking, giving children the opportunity to see the world of games not only as players, but also as creators.

Learning objectives

1.Students should understand the basic principles of game design, such as narrative structure, level design, and physics mechanisms.
2.To explore how visual and auditory parameters (colors, music, sounds) influence players' emotions and behavior.
3.To study the basic principles of human psychology related to play, such as the sense of reward and maintaining interest.
4.To become familiar with simple programming and game creation tools through experiential activities.
5.To apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills when designing and implementing a mini-game.
6.To develop collaboration and teamwork skills through joint creation and resolution of technical challenges.
7.To enhance the responsible use of technology and the perception of innovation in the field of digital media.
